1. Here in Spain, there is little tradition of skating... How is it in Japan? Are there many ice rinks? Do children practice ice skating at school?
Here in Japan I think we have many ice rinks. But there is also public section too so it's really hard to get club or the private ice in Japan. Especially for the kids and pro skaters like me who don't compete anymore. At school no. Maybe only few school but most of them in where they have snow like Hokkaido. . 2.- How did you start to skate and how old were you? Do you remember your first competition?
I started skating because of my friend. She asked me if I have interesting to do skating as a lessons one time a week and I was 9 years old. Yes off course I do remember my first competition
3.- What do you remember most fondly of your competitive career? Do you miss it?
um actually every competition is special and fondly to me. Because every time is the special moment for me. Now I didn't miss it. That's why I finish compete.
4.- Was it hard to make the decision of retiring? What motivated you to do this?
It wasn't hard. No. Because I have no disappointing feelings in my skating life. I guess I had and I still have sweet and warm fans in this world so last year I skated for them to say and show "thank you" for supporting me as a message. Also for my baby to show what I do. And I guess I did it good and was happy to share my time with everyone so.
5.- Some media has published that you leave active competition to train, we have seen you in photos with little girls, do you train them? Do you give lessons of ice skating?
Yes, I sometimes teach little kids and also skaters who compete as a athlete. In Japan and Italy.
6-. Javier trains in Canada but he is Spanish…in the future if you train, where would you like to live? Do you see yourself living in one of this countries?
I don't know it's depend. I still want to skate in the show too so. But if I will be with Javi then it is possible to teach in Spain and Japan. But it's depend really.
7- We have seen you in different TV interviews. Has someone offered you a TV show or to work as a commentator?
I do commentating in TV news and also I do some talk TV shows too.
8.- Figure skating is a very famous sport in Japan, valued and with a long tradition, in individual categories, there are a lot of good skaters. Why are ice dance and pairs not so strenched?
Well I done know. Hahaha. Um I guess because there was great single skaters for long time like Midori, Yuka more. That's why maybe. Also there is not strong coach for Ice dance and pair. I guess.....
9.- Watching shows in Japan, although there are pairs and ice dancers, they don’t usually have the same reception by the public as individual categories. Is it enough for the Japanese fans to like this categories or do you believe that the reason is that there is not enough Japanese dance and pair stars?
There is so many reasons but I can't tell. Sorry but off course one reason is no history with ice dance and pair in Japan so for sure it is difficult to show on TV. But now they stared to talk about ice dance and pair so I hope it will change for the future.
10.- Mao decided to come back after a year of withdrawal, nevertheless she has found a lot of new young talented girls. What do you think about her comeback? At some point have you considered competing again?
Sorry I can't say anything about Mao. But I am good friend with her and she is great skater. Please understand. And me? No come back and compete again. Hahaha
11.- In 2002 you were the first ladie in throwing and landing a quad. Now, there is a big boom with little Russian skaters. Do you surprise that with the potential they have, there is nobody who tries quads and even they have problems with triples?
I believe someday someone will do quad and will do in competition no one do it yet because they have plan what they want to do. I guess
12.- Now, how is your relationship with the Japanese team?
With skaters I am good with them. Off course we don't see much but when I see skaters in the shows we talk a lot and have fun together.
13.- Fans in Japan can be very insistent and pressing... how did you hold up your fame and pression when you competed? Now that you don’t compete but you are still very famous, how have the fans changed about you? Japanese skaters are usually very inaccessible to fans , but other skaters, due to the federation protects you overly?
Well I had really hard time before but at some point I changed my mine to go on my way. And feel fans power together on the ice to make my performance good. So after that was really easy to not have any pressures. And after I stop competing I still skating in the shows so my fans don't change anything. They still supporting me so great. I have and I had no protects from federation. No.
